Working from home can be so rewarding, yet so challenging at the same time. Whether you are stuck working from home because of the current global situation, or you work from home because you run your own business you might be in need of a few tips to help keep you motivated. Look no further, my friend!

Look, we all love the idea of being our boss, setting our own hours and having better work/life balance.

Unfortunately, more often than not, we end up overwhelmed, overworked and over it.

I want to share with you a few tips that help me to stay motivated in the daily grind that is running your own business. I hope these tips help you and if I have missed one, send me a note because I always love hearing your stories about how you are absolutely slaying your girl boss dreams!

WORKING FROM HOME TIP #1

TIME BLOCK AND DO NOT DISTURB

If you have a project to do, set a time block in your calendar, where you are going to focus on that project and THAT PROJECT ONLY.

During these time block sessions, you need to close your emails, web browsers, turn your phone onto do-not-disturb and heck, even put it in another room.

Remove all distracts so you can hone in on the project and give it your full attention.

It is amazing what you can get done in an hour or two with no distractions.

As an entrepreneur, you need to tell your time what to do, not the other way around.

Which brings me to my next point…

WORKING FROM HOME TIP #2

DON’T MULTITASK WHEN WORKING

Look I get it, we all have a to-do list a mile long. But multitasking is only going to leave your even more overwhelmed. It sounds counterproductive, but trust me when I say you need to have laser-like focus when you are working from home if you want to smash your goals. Focus on getting one thing done, rather than attempting ten things and barely making a dent in any of them.

Multitasking causes you to spread yourself thin, and ultimately burn out.

Here is a fantastic read on 4 ways to increase your productivity by multitasking less.

WORKING FROM HOME TIP #3

TAKE BREAKS + WALK AWAY

You are stressed, you have a deadline, you simply CANNOT take a break.

Wrong! False! Incorrect!

Taking a break (and a real mental break, not checking your phone or running an errand) will clear your mind, and help you to refocus..

I often find if I take a break and walk away from a project that is stressing me out, I come back with a whole new perspective.

You, and your mental health, always come first. Not your business.

WORKING FROM HOME TIP #4

GET DRESSED AND GET TO WORK

I’m not perfect at this, but getting dressed, doing your hair and makeup, even if you aren’t going to see another soul, can help get your brain into work mode.

We all know PJs are lazy, couch, comfortable clothes. So when working from home, even if you upgrade your PJ pants for yoga pants, it’s an upgrade.

Get dressed!

WORKING FROM HOME TIP #5

HAVE A HOBBY THAT IS NOT WORK OR COMPUTER RELATED

This was a huge one for me. I found in my free time I just spent it all on my phone and it was giving me migraines and making me feel stressed.

So I started making Polymer Clay earrings and honestly, it’s been the best creative outlet.

I use my hands and it allows my brain to switch off from the digital world.

I also joined a spin class and even though the class is just 30 minutes, I am left feeling re-energized and re-motivated to tackle my giant to-do list.

Other great ideas are baking, if you’re stuck on ideas check out some of my other blog posts here.
