A surefire way to grow your account on Instagram is to get more comments on your posts. Engagement is the name of the game, and commenting is just one form of engagement that can help you grow.
Why? The more people that interact with your posts, the more times your posts will be shown to other people – the more people who see your posts, the more your account will grow.
Firstly, what is Engagement?
Instagram engagement is defined by any action a user takes to interact with your post…such as:
- Liking
- Commenting
- Sharing
- Saving
- Scrolling through a carousel
- Watching a Reel
- Watching an IGTV
- Tuning into a Live
- Responding to a story
- Interacting with a story sticker
Today we are going to focus on comments. And more specifically, how to get MORE comments on your Instagram posts.
How to get more comments on Instagram Posts
The key to getting more comments, all comes down to your captions. Here are 5 things you can in your captions do to get more comments on your posts:
[1] Ask a question
Even if barely anyone comments a reply – they’re reading your caption and answering in their head.
The conversation is starting, and as long as it keeps going, soon enough you’ll have a bunch of people commenting responses!
Consistency is key when it comes to Instagram. It can feel slow at the start, but keep asking and keep starting those conversations.
[2] Play a game
Some fun games like “describe your day in emojis” or “this or that” always go down a treat. People love to be entertained and to have fun on social media and simple games like this go a long way!
I do this on my feed with my weekly Megzie Asks segment. I’ve found these posts tend to get the most comments out of all of my posts.
[3] Respond to comments with a question
Keep the conversation going after someone comments on your post. This keeps the “social” in social media and helps you to build genuine relationships with your followers.
[4] Post polarizing content
Sometimes it’s good to rock the boat and stir up a bit of controversy. Polarizing posts tend to get more attention because they’re so opposite to what everyone else is posting. They’re bold, raw and can help to build deeper audience connections.
Just make sure you know your audience because if done wrong, polarizing content can cause unwanted backlash or upset your target audience.
[5] Know your audience and post content that genuinely serves them
If you’re dishing out content that your audience is in need of – they’ll be naturally inclined to comment. And a great way to get to know your audience is to ASK QUESTIONS about what it is they want.
Ask questions in your stories, look at your FAQs, what are people asking you in your DMs. These are all ways to hone into exactly what it is that your audience likes and wants from you.
Check your insights and look at what people are commenting on and liking the most – and then post more content like that.
You will constantly be tweaking and refining your content as you learn more about what your audience wants, needs and likes from you.
